Belgian Football Union to question players on match-fixing

by editorDecember 13, 2018
December 13, 2018
The Belgian Football Union will question Waasland-Beveren players about Dejan Veljkovic’s rigging matches against Mechelen.
Players who participated in the game between Mechelen and Waasland-Beveren last year received an “invitation” from the organization in their mailbox, according to news published Thursday in Nieuwsblad.

A federal prosecutors’ investigation revealed that KV Mechelen, in order to remain in first place, tried to win the match against Waasland-Beveren by rigging it. The criminal investigation is still ongoing, and it is now the Belgian Union that is getting going. It does not have to wait for a possible conviction before leading its own investigation.
