Brussels deploys extra police units at Winter Wonders

by editor December 12, 2018
December 12, 2018
Following Tuesday night’s shooting at the Strasbourg Winter Market, Brussels, like many other cities, has reviewed security arrangements for end-of-year events, the Mayor’s Office reported.
Mayor Philippe Close had a meeting with his chief of staff and the city’s security services on Wednesday morning to see how best to manage the situation in Brussels, even though the threat level has not been raised thus far.

Security has been stepped up at the Winter Wonders perimeter, with extra police teams deployed there from Wednesday. This is in addition to the initial arrangements involving police, security agents and prevention work by teams from the BRAVVO non-profit organisation.

The Winter Wonders and Christmas Fair is being held from 30 November 2018 to 6 January 2019 at the Grand-Place in Brussels and around the Bourse, Place de la Monnaie, Place Sainte-Catherine and Marché aux Poissons.
