The inauguration of Uccle’s digital public space was attended by the Secretary of State for Digital Transition, Bianca Debaets (Christian Democratic and Flemish, CD&V, party) as well as the President of the commune’s Public Welfare Centre (CPAS), Stefan Cornelis, and the Deputy General Director of the Actiris employment agency, Caroline Mancel.
The commune’s new digital public space has been installed in the Actiris office at Chaussée d’Alemberg 1011. It is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday each week. On Mondays, the premises are used mainly for trainings.
“One in seven Brussels residents has never used a computer,” Bianca Debaets said. “For many, digital illiteracy is an obstacle to life in society. In digital public spaces, people can all familiarise themselves in a very simple manner with ICTs. How do I send an e-mail? How do I add a photo? How do I post my CV? Everyone can find answers to these questions there.”
The Brussels Government’s digital inclusion plan targets better quality control in the new digital public spaces. It also includes the pursuit of the deployment of the free wifi.brussels network.
The computers and materials are financed by the Brussels Regional Government.
