Students of ULB raise money online for security guard

Students and former students of the Free University of Brussels (ULB) have launched a crowd-funding campaign in aid of the family of André Vande Maele, who for years was responsible for security at La Jefke, a popular student party venue.
“He was part of the ULB student family,” the student write on the crowd-funding page. “It is with great dismay that we have discovered that André is no longer with us. He and his wife Jeanine always took good care of us.”

“It is with much emotion that we have discovered that André Vande Maele, who for a long time was responsible for security at La Jefke, is gone,” the initiators of the crowd-funding write on the appeal page. “With his wife Jeanine, they always took care of us current and former students, and Jeanine continues to do so in her burger shop every evening. Everyone is free to take part as far as they can, the important thing is to show them how much they mean to the family folklore of the ULB, and that we are with them in spirit,” the students write.

At the time of writing, with three days left to contribute, the fund was standing at €1,366.
