The Belgian branch of the Ikea furniture giant on Wednesday announced a reorganisation that could cost 100 to 120 jobs at its headquarters in Zaventem and its human resources departments.
The Swedish mother company plans to “adjust its organisational configuration” on about 30 markets, which could lead to the elimination of 7,500 posts worldwide, according to an IKEA press release .
IKEA, which employs 3,500 workers in Belgium, said the move was part of a global transformation aimed at making its operations more practical and affordable for a greater number of clients. It aims to step up its investments in both existing and future Ikea stores and logistical centres by developing city-centre concept stores and focussing on its online trading platform to meet the needs of its customers in better and new ways.
Some 11,500 new jobs are to be created in the next two years worldwide by opening about 30 new Ikea touchpoints and increasing investment in its distribution network and digital capabilities, the Sweden-based company said in its press release.
