Colruyt to ban plastic bags from its stores, offering instead innovative reusable bags

Colruyt Group will gradually ban the use of disposable bags for fruit and vegetables, the group announced today, thus saving about 150 million bags annually.
As of 19 June, disposable bags will disappear from 50 stores (to start): “all Bio-Planet stores (29) and twenty others: Colruyt Meilleurs Prix, OKay, OKay Compact and Spar Colruyt Group stores in the Lier, Kortrijk, Mons and Dinant regions.”

By the end of October 2019, all of the group’s stores will have taken the plunge.

Colruyt will propose a new innovative bag, reusable 100 times minimum, transparent and machine washable. It can carry up to four kilograms.

“Through this commitment, Colruyt Group wants to be proactive in finding a comprehensive solution in Belgium to reduce the use of plastic”, Xtra explained. Xtra is the brand of reusable bags.
