Driver hits pedestrian in Brussels road rage incident

by editor April 8, 2019

A driver deliberately drove into a pedestrian in Ixelles on Sunday afternoon, in what police suspect to be an incident of road rage.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. near Chaussée d’Ixelles, between Place Fernand Cocq and Flagey, according to reports in Belgian media.

Police and ambulance services arrived not long after the incident. The victim was well enough to be questioned by the police, police commissioner of the Brussels Capital Ixelles zone Olivier Slosse, told Bruzz.

The pedestrian was not gravely injured but was declared unfit for work for three days. The perpetrator is still at large.

“It is a deliberate collision,” Slosse said. The case was forwarded to the public prosecutor’s office, which suspects the driver of attempted manslaughter.

For the time being, there are no indications that the motorist and the pedestrian knew each other. This is probably a case of road rage due to “an out of control argument about traffic irritation,” added Slosse.
