Dutch Parliament wants Brussels-Amsterdam flights axed

by editor
The Dutch Parliament’s Second Chamber wishes to end air links between Amsterdam and Brussels.
A majority of legislators, mainly members of the co-ruling D66 and CristenUnie, have come out in favour of a proposal to this effect by the ecological GroenLinks party.

Amsterdam and Brussels are linked by many daily flights, but train travel is just as fast and less harmful to the environment. GroenLinks Parliamentarian Suzanne Kröger said a good allocation of time slots for take-off and landing needed to be worked out. It was in the nation’s interest, she added, to distribute these slots reasonably, based wherever possible on indispensable links.

The Chamber called on the Dutch Government to reach agreements with stakeholders to phase out the Amsterdam-Brussels flights gradually.
