Gender parity employment better in Belgium than in EU

In the EU, the employment rate of women aged 20 to 64 reached 66.5% in 2017.
The male rate was 78.0%, a difference of 11.5 %, Eurostat (European statistics office) revealed today. In Belgium, the difference was 9.8 %, a better result than the European average. 

Among EU Member States, the employment gap between sexes was lower in Lithuania (1.0 %), Finland (3.5 %), Sweden (4.0 %) and Latvia (4.3 %). On the other side of the picture, we have Malta (24.1 %), Italy (19.8 %) and Greece (19.7 %). 

Belgium is below the European average with its difference of 9.8 %.

Among neighbouring countries, the Netherlands has a larger gap (10.5 %), while Germany, France and Luxembourg all have a difference of 7.9 %.
