Jihadists: "Withdrawing nationality does not solve everything," Jambon says

Despite being in favour of withdrawing nationality from ISIS Belgian jihadists with dual nationality, the N-VA recognises that this “does not solve everything,” former Interior Minister, Jan Jambon said on the Flemish De Ochtend (Radio 1).
“The best thing would be to leave them where they are and withdraw the Belgian nationality from those with dual nationality. It is true that this would not solve everything, but it would complicate their life,”  Jan Jambon said Monday morning.

Jambon is also in favour of a type of transit centre near the conflict zone where European states could analyse “case by case” and determine to which country they should be repatriated and tried.

Should the European countries adopt this idea, it must be part of “a wider international framework,” such as the UN, Jan Jambon says.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump encouraged Europeans to bring the 800 ISIS soldiers home to face judgement in their country.

As for a European “Guantanamo-like” detention camp, the former Interior Minister is not favourable. “It does not fit our culture, but let’s not be stupid. Most ISIS fighters in Syria will be released one day and that is a huge challenge,” he said.
