Liege Carnival delayed for "security reasons"

by editor
The Carnival procession in La Calamine in Liege will start 45 minutes late today, due to unexpected strong winds in the region.

“For security reasons, the procession will begin at 13:30, instead of 12:45. According to the meteorologists, gusts of wind should be less strong at this time, “said Frederic Krickel, Le Soir reports.

The festivities, however, will not be cancelled, said Krickel, who is the head of communication carnival committee Ke-Ne-He-Mo.

Thousands of visitors, as well as nearly 3,500 participants, are expected to participate in this “Monday of the Roses” in La Calamine.

Yesterday evening a man drove his car into the parade route during carnival celebrations in Aalst.
