Mail carriers suffer more attacks

The year 2018 is in danger of passing 2017 in the number of attacks on mail carriers, according to official numbers.
In the first half of 2018, 123 mail carriers in Belgium were the subject of intimidation or aggression, compared to 193 in the whole of 2017, according to minister for telecommunications Alexander de Croo responding to a parliametary question.

In 81 of the cases in question, the personnel in question were prescribed as unable to work.

“In the majority of cases, we’re talking about verbal aggression such as insults and other attacks, such as aggressive movements and the slamming of doors. Motions involving actual phsyical violence are rare,” he said.

The psychosocial service of Bpost, meanwhile, dealt in 2017 with 67 cases, and 25 in the fi4rst half of 2018, with a total of 81 in the period covering the whole of 2017 and the first semester of 2018.
