The airport recorded a 15% increase in its use, with 420,000 passengers last year, compared to 365,000 in 2017. These figures came close to those of 2016, when planes were chartered from Ostend following the 22 March attack at Brussels Airport in Zaventem. In that year, 435,000 passengers had used the airport.
The increase may, in particular, be explained by the launch of new destinations in Egypt and the reactivation of flights to Tunisia. Moreover, the trend should continue into 2019.
Cargo activity has also had a positive year with 28,000 tonnes of goods being dealt with.
The airport has seen constant growth for several years. Investment has occurred in further parking spaces, a second arrivals hall, a retail area and restaurant and catering outlets amongst others.
