Over 8,000 Belgians opt for 500-euro-per-month tax ease

Some 8,000 Belgians have taken advantage of a measure exempting them from income tax and social security contributions for some supplementary activities, up to a maximum of 6,000 euros per year, according to data provided on Friday by the Office of Social Affairs Minister Maggie De Block.
The measure, introduced six months ago, has been popular with the Sport sector in particular.

Since 15 July 2018, employees working at least four-fifths of the time, pensioners and independent contractors can earn up to 500 euros, tax-free, per month for work in various fields. The measure has been gradually gaining in popularity. One month after its introduction, 553 persons had already used it. Five months later, their number has risen to more than 8,000.

The measure is particularly popular in the Sports world, especially among coaches. Many Belgians also use it to do small maintenance jobs or when working as personal aides.
