The pilot project is supervised by TRplus/Passwerk, an organisation that deploys people with autism in various sectors, including ICT, and provides job coaching for its employees.
“It is not always easy for people with ASD to find a job on the regular labour market. Functions such as baggage screening at the airport are, however, well suited to their needs,” says Nico De Cleen of TRplus/Passwerk.
The prospective screeners have gone through an extensive recruitment procedure in recent months. In addition, G4S and TRplus/Passwerk, together with Brussels Airport, have provided a quiet working space away from the typical bustle of the airport.
The pilot project seems to be a success. “The first weeks of our new employees already show that they have all the qualities to quickly master the screening process”, says Jean-Paul Van Avermaet of G4S Belgium.
