From January to March 2019, a total of 6,632,242 vehicles were filmed on automatic cameras installed throughout the five Brussels communes, while 362.823 were caught on Lidar. About 110.000 motorists were recorded at 104 mobile checkpoints operated by traffic police and 3,700 were found to be in infraction. Thanks to automatic camera recordings, about 4,800 speed tickets were issued. Another nine were given out for driving through red lights – as against 61 in the corresponding period of last year.
The driver of a Ford Mustang was recorded at 141 km/hr, twice the 70-km/hr speed limit for the road in question, Avenue Van Praet, on the morning of 19 January. The vehicle was finally intercepted at a mobile check on the evening of 29 March, doing 133 km/hr, instead of 50 km/hr, in the Bailli Tunnel.
In the last quarter of 2018, it had been flashed at Nivelles, Halle and Auderghem at speeds oscillating between 123 and 168 km/hr.
