Record number of 17,000 visitors attend Brussels’ “Museum Night Fever” event

Around thirty establishments opened their doors between 7pm and 1am that evening. 17,000 is an “absolute record” number of visitors, according to organiser Brussels Museums. The association said it was very happy about the number of young people that attended in a press release issued just after the event. 

“According to our figures, the thirty participating museums welcomed more than 17,000 people on Saturday the 23rd of February. That’s an absolute record!”, says Brussels Museums spokesperson Anaïs Bastin. Brussels Museums is part of the Brussels Museum Council.  

The “Museum Night Fever” event attracted a younger audience this year, as 75% of the participants were under 35 years of age. 

The big cultural institutions received a record number of visitors. For example, the Belvue Museum received 12,095 visitors and the Magritte Museum received 6,156 visitors. KANAL also had 5,000 visitors. 

Organisers say the “more intimate” museums had a proportionately high number of visitors. The Jewish Museum had 1,723 visitors, Chocostory Brussels had 1,777 visitors and the ARGOS Centre for Art and Media had 870 visitors. 

Over the course of the evening, a thousand creative young people offered up a multi-discipline artistic program, which included concerts, animations, light-saber battles, giant table football, Gregorian electro singing… 

Tickets to the events come as bracelets and they can be exchanged for a free ticket to one of the participating museums up until the 31st of March. 

The next “Museum Night Fever” event will be on the 14th of March 2020.
