Ryanair welcomes ruling against compensation for clients affected by strikes

by editor
Ryanair welcomed on Wednesday a ruling by the Irish Court of Swords, in Dublin, that no compensation is owed to customers whose flights were delayed or cancelled due to strikes at the Irish airline last year.
The court found that the strikes were beyond the airline’s control.

The company indicated in a press release that it fully adhered to EU legislation 261 and had rescheduled or reimbursed all the customers concerned by “the small number of delays/cancellations due to the strikes.” It added that it had fully assisted affected customers, providing lodging, meals and alternative flights.

The cancellations were independent of Ryanair’s will so no EU261 compensation was due, as was confirmed by the decision of the Swords District Court, the airline stressed.

Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs said the court’s decision followed similar rulings in Barcelona, Badajoz, Orense and Pontevedra in Spain. He said Ryanair adhered fully to EU261 and processed all valid requests for compensation within 10 days.
