Skeyes risks fines of up to 20,000 euros per flight that has been cancelled by the strikes of the air traffic controllers.
The judge of the summary proceeding, a fast-tracked proceeding in a lower court, ruled that air traffic control centre Skeyes is obliged to guarantee the service, after a complaint from Brussels Airlines.
Skeyes has to pay large fines if flights are cancelled before 26 May: 10,000 euros per cancelled European flight, and up to 20,000 euros for long-haul flights. They will also have to pay a substantial amount for all delays and diversions, reported VRT NWS.
On Thursday, the Belgian airspace was closed the whole morning, which caused a lot of hindrance in the airports.
