Snow severely disrupts Charleroi airport

by editor
The activities of Charleroi airport were severely disrupted on Saturday morning because of snow.
Most aircraft have indeed recorded landing delays of two to three hours and of 1 1/2 to more than five hours for takeoff, Internet Brussels South Charleroi Airport site reports. No flight has been cancelled, though.

The planes were ready to go first thing in the morning, before the arrival of “abundant and unpredictable” snow. It suspended the ongoing defrosting of aircraft. Airport activities have been stopped.

Delays have accumulated. The airport runway has been cleared of snow since, and is operational again, but layers of snow and ice that have accumulated on aircraft must still be removed. A process that takes 20 to 30 minutes per plane.

The airport expects disruptions for the rest of the day.
