The son of Mechelen’s city councillour Melikan Kucam has also been arrested in connection with the investigation into alleged trafficking with humanitarian visas, according to Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.
Melikan Kucam is suspected of having issued humanitarian visas to refugees in exchange for large sums of money. He is now under an arrest warrant for human trafficking, criminal organization, corruption and embezzlement.
His son, aged 29, is charged with human trafficking, criminal organisation and embezzlement. He was arrested Tuesday this week and must appear Friday at the council chamber.
