Union to consult its base on possible strike action at Skeyes

The Christian trade union ACV-Transcom (CSC-Transcom) will consult its base on possible strike action at Skeyes, which manages Belgium’s airspace, ACV/CSC’s Kurt Callaerts said on Tuesday.

The union had given the Skeyes management notice in early February of its intention to take strike action in connection with a list of about 25 grievances, related mainly to breaks in service, appointments and allowances. Another point of contention is a new training centre at Steenokkerzeel, opened under a joint-venture partnership whose transparency is being questioned by the union.

The union had originally set 23 February as the target date for its strike action but opted to wait until a conciliation meeting, which took place on Tuesday.  Callaerts said ACV/CSC would now inform its base and its trade union committee and assess the situation on Friday.

A new meeting with the Skeyes management is scheduled for 11 March.

Callaerts, however, said he could not say with any certainty that there would be no strike action during the Carnival holidays. “Our committee will have to decide,” he said. Brussels Airport has announced today that it is preparing for 75,000 Carnival holidaymakers over the coming weekend.

Meanwhile, Skeyes has confirmed the meeting on 11 March.
