Wednesday's strike expected to have little effect on high-speed trains

Wednesday’s national strike is not expected to have a major effect on high-speed trains.
Thalys has scheduled just one cancellation between Brussels and Paris, while Eurostar does not foresee any major problems for passengers travelling to England.

However, people bound for France (Lille or Calais) will have to review their plans due to the closure of the intra-Schengen terminal at the Bruxelles-Midi station. This concerns a minority of travellers, said a Eurostar spokeswoman, who added that they can have their tickets reimbursed at no extra cost and take the TGV to France, instead.

At Thalys, only the train that leaves the Gare du Midi for Paris at 7.13 a.m. will be cancelled on Wednesday. The travellers concerned can exchange their tickets for an earlier or later train at no cost.

Disruptions to the InterCity Express and TGV services are also expected to be minimal.

Belgium’s railway utility, SNCB, was due to announce on Monday afternoon which trains will run on its minimum service on Wednesday.

The strike is the third trade union action since the launch of a minimum service by the unions in March 2018. At the last strike, in July last, one out of three trains was in service, compared to a normal working day.
