Wouter Beke wants to strengthen Christian Democratic family

by editor
CD&V President Wouter Beke implied Saturday in interviews granted to L’EchoLa Libre Belgique and La Dernière Heure that he wants to reinforce his party’s bonds with the Francophone CDH.
“I want CD&V and CDH to be part of the future government,” he said in La Libre Belgique

Maxime Prevot becoming head of CDH (sister party to CD&V) in the South of the country, is an opportunity to strengthen the Christian Democratic family bonds, Wouter Beke feels.

“I want a stronger Christian Democratic family. It was already my wish in 2014. I wanted to build a majority with CDH. Here we are in 2019, and I hope that the CD&V and CDH family will be part of the future federal government,” Mr. Beke says in La Libre Belgique.

“Today, should it depend on me, I would love to have CDH at the negotiating table in 2019,” Mr. Beke goes on in L’Echo. He affirms he has a “warm and very friendly relationship” with Maxime Prevot, whose work as Namur’s mayor he commends.

Mr. Beke adds in La Libre Belgique that he intends to take concrete initiatives to strengthen the CDH/CD&V axis, and that “Maxime Prevot should do the same.”

However, the party chairman does not believe in re-federalisation, and adds that CD&V wants to reinforce regional competencies, “in view of a better collaboration.”
