Discover the European beer scene with the new beBeer app

by editor

On World Beer Day, the Belgian start-up beBeer launched a groundbreaking web application named “beBeer in your pocket.” This innovative mobile platform is specifically designed to showcase Europe’s rich beer heritage, serving as an essential resource for craft beer enthusiasts and those eager to explore local brews.

Features of the new beBeer app

Accessible now at www.bebeer.app, the application does not require any downloads, making it convenient for users to navigate. The web app features an interactive map that allows users to discover over 5,000 breweries, along with up-to-date news, events, and detailed information about various beers. With support in four languages—French, Dutch, English, and German—the app also includes a brewing calendar designed to help users plan their hoppy adventures across Europe.

Building a network of brewing communities

Alongside the app launch, beBeer is establishing a European network of Brewing Cities and Communes. This initiative introduces a new label awarded to municipalities that actively promote their brewing heritage. The label is granted based on ten objective criteria, which assess the richness and diversity of each commune’s brewing ecosystem, rated on a scale of one to three hops, reminiscent of the flower-filled communes.

This project emphasizes a strong territorial approach, aiming to unite brewers, local promoters, elected officials, and beer lovers through a shared platform. For local authorities, this initiative acts as a catalyst for increased visibility, tourist attraction, and economic growth. Meanwhile, for brewers and related sectors—such as specialized bars, guilds, hop producers, festivals, and museums—it offers a vibrant and interactive showcase. As Pascal Goergen, founder of beBeer, states,

“This is not an ISO label, but concrete recognition of a region’s brewing intensity. Sometimes we are unaware of the brewing treasures hidden in our own city.”

As the initiative unfolds, several European communes have already been approached for participation in the initial phase, with the first labels anticipated by October. Elected councillors are encouraged to become ambassadors for beBeer, bridging the gap between their communities and the local brewing landscape.

More than just an app, beBeer represents a comprehensive ecosystem centered around three interconnected platforms. It is free, intuitive, and collaborative, welcoming everyone—beer aficionados, industry professionals, visitors, and local officials. The overarching goal? To celebrate and promote European brewing culture, one pint at a time.
