The Arctic Light 2025 exercise, led by Denmark, is underway with the participation of 550 troops from various NATO nations, aimed at bolstering operational readiness and enhancing collaborative response capabilities to address emerging threats in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions.

Joint military drills in Greenland

On Wednesday, soldiers from Denmark, France, and Germany conducted critical helicopter infiltration drills close to Kangerlussuaq, a pivotal Danish air force base situated in western Greenland. Meanwhile, Swedish reconnaissance units deployed drones to effectively monitor simulated enemy movements throughout the exercise, showcasing advanced military tactics and teamwork.

Challenges and strategic importance

Danish military officers pointed out that participants face significant challenges posed by the region’s remote terrain and the heavy equipment loads required for operations. The exercise is strategically conducted in an area characterized by a stable climate zone, which allows for year-round airfield operations, thus establishing Kangerlussuaq as a crucial hub for military activities in the Arctic.
