In a series of devastating attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, Russian drones unleashed chaos early Monday, resulting in multiple explosions and a significant fire. The assault notably affected a children’s center, damaging its facade and windows.
Impact of the drone strikes on residents
Late Sunday and into the early hours of Monday, the strikes led to injuries among civilians. According to reports from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, three individuals sustained injuries during the onslaught. The drone strikes wreaked havoc on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, causing extensive damage to vehicles and a local business.
Emergency services arrived swiftly at the scene to combat the ensuing fires, which erupted in both production and warehouse areas. Authorities confirmed that at least 13 buildings suffered damage, with a staggering count of 120 windows shattered across various apartments and 11 entrances rendered unusable.
Scale of the attacks
The General Staff of Ukraine reported that, during the night, Russian forces launched a total of two ballistic missiles and 131 drones targeting various regions throughout Ukraine. These coordinated strikes underscore the ongoing conflict and its profound impact on civilian life and infrastructure.
“The strikes are a reminder of the persistent threat faced by our citizens amidst this conflict,” remarked a local official.
The continuous attacks not only highlight the dangers posed by modern warfare but also the urgent need for international attention and response to protect civilian populations in conflict zones.
