Yellow jackets will continue their Namur blockade if the government doesn’t react

The “Yellow jackets” are still in place and will continue to block the Proxifuel depot at Wierde “for as long as it takes”, their spokesman Claude Gilles said on Sunday.

The protest will not end at 6am on Monday as originally planned.

When the “Yellow jackets” announced they had created a political movement for the next Federal elections, Mr Gilles added that the blockade at Wierde will continue for as long as it takes the government to react.

“Hundreds of people are coming here every day and we won’t back down”, he said. “We now want the government to make the first move, even if it is just inviting us to the negotiation table”.

Riled by accusations that the Wierde protesters are stopping people heating their homes by blocking the Proxifuel depot, Mr Gilles has tried to clarify the situation. “We are not stopping and will not stop trucks that are delivering oil used for heating homes”, he stated. “Reliable sources have told us that diesel is also stored here and that is the type of fuel we are targeting”.
