Joint Belgian Foreign Affairs and Defence mission to Kinshasa

by editor May 13, 2019
May 13, 2019

Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Minister of Defence, mandated Ambassador Renier Nijskens, Special Envoy for the Great Lake region, and Major General Philippe Boucké, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Defence, to undertake a mission to Kinshasa from the 12th to the 15th of May 2019.

The objective of this mission, which follows the meeting of Minister Reynders with President Tshisekedi in Washington on the 3rd of April, is to establish contacts with the new authorities as well as all political and civil society actors in order to revitalize the bilateral relations and examine together how Belgium can best contribute to accompany the Democratic Republic of the Congo towards the changes wished by the Congolese population.
