U.K. police shot dead a man in south London in what they described as a “terrorist-related” incident on Sunday in which at least three people were injured.

The Metropolitan Police said on Twitter that “it is believed a number of people have been stabbed. The circumstances are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related.” They later added that three people had been injured: one person in hospital in “life-threatening condition,” a second in hospital but not in life-threatening condition and a third person treated for minor injuries.

Police said the scene has since been “fully contained,” while the London Ambulance Service said it had sent “a number of resources” to the area.

Social media posts from the scene show streets in the area crowded with emergency vehicles.

One person tweeted: “We’ve been evacuated, we have no idea what happened, but we’re safe, no idea when we’ll get back in, thoughts are with the people directly affected.”
