UK COVID-19 deaths top 150,000

by editor January 8, 2022
January 8, 2022

More than 150,000 people have died in the U.K. within 28 days of testing positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic started, according to the latest figures.

A further 313 deaths were reported on Saturday, according to data from the U.K. government, taking the total to 150,057.

The U.K. is the seventh country to cross the 150,000 threshold, according to the BBC. It joins the U.S., Brazil, India, Russia, Mexico and Peru.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has held off introducing new restrictions in England despite the prevalence of the highly infectious Omicron strain of the coronavirus, but has promised a further review before the current regulations expire January 26.
