Elon Musk issues warning to Pentagon over leaked China war briefing details

Elon Musk, a prominent advisor to former President Donald Trump, has issued a stern warning to employees at the Pentagon regarding possible leaks of sensitive information. This follows a report from the New York Times revealing that Musk was scheduled to receive a briefing concerning potential military actions involving China.

The report, which emerged on Thursday evening in the United States, cited anonymous American officials who indicated that the Pentagon had planned a meeting with Musk to discuss U.S. military strategies in the event of a conflict with China. Following the publication of this story, both Pentagon officials and President Trump confirmed the meeting, albeit denying that it would encompass any discussions regarding military operations related to China.

“China will not even be mentioned or discussed,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. “How disgraceful it is that the discredited media can make up such lies. Anyway, the story is completely untrue!!!”

In response to Trump’s remarks, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the post, branding the New York Times as “pure propaganda.” He further warned, “I look forward to the prosecution of those at the Pentagon who are leaking maliciously false information to NYT.” Musk asserted that those responsible would be held accountable.

Concerns over potential conflicts of interest

The New York Times article that sparked outrage within the White House emphasized that this briefing could expand Musk’s already significant involvement in governmental matters. This situation raises critical concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest, especially as Musk maintains control over several companies, including SpaceX, which is a major contractor for the government.

Musk’s expanding influence in government affairs

As Musk continues to engage deeply with federal bureaucracy, questions arise about the implications of his dual role as a businessman and a consultant in military affairs. The intersection of corporate interests and national security is garnering increased scrutiny, particularly given the complex nature of U.S.-China relations.
