Rubio finds Navalny poisoning report from European nations deeply troubling

by editor

The recent findings released by five European nations regarding the alleged poisoning of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny have been described as “troubling” by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This statement came during a press conference in Slovakia on Sunday.

Details of the Poisoning Report

According to a joint report from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, Navalny was poisoned with a toxin derived from a poison dart frog, leading to his death in a penal colony two years ago. The Russian government has outright dismissed these accusations as baseless.

U.S. Response and Diplomatic Engagement

In response to the revelations, Rubio acknowledged the findings, emphasizing, “We obviously are aware of the report. It’s a troubling report. We’re aware of that case of Mr. Navalny and certainly … we don’t have any reason to question it,” as reported by Reuters. When questioned about why the U.S. refrained from joining the five countries in their official statement, he clarified, “Those countries came to that conclusion. They coordinated that. … Doesn’t mean we disagree with the outcome.”

Rubio’s visit to Slovakia and Hungary is part of a two-day diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening ties with these EU nations, which often find themselves at odds with Brussels. In his engagements, he met with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who recently visited former U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida. Looking ahead, Rubio is set to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is preparing for an upcoming election in April.
