ATHENS — The U.S. Ambassador to Athens, Kimberly Guilfoyle, announced on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is expected to make a visit to Greece in the near future. While specifics regarding the timing remain uncertain, she expressed optimism about the trip taking place during the summer months.

In response to inquiries about the schedule, Guilfoyle remarked, “Well, I can’t give you the exact date, a lot of things are happening, but he is going to come to Greece.” This announcement comes alongside plans for other high-profile U.S. officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to visit Athens as well.

Warm welcome anticipated for Trump

During her remarks, Guilfoyle, who has a diverse background as a former prosecutor and Fox News host, spoke to journalists from Greece’s national public broadcaster (ERT) at their headquarters. In a recent interview, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis conveyed that Trump would receive a very warm welcome upon his arrival. “He’s going to have a good time,” Mitsotakis stated, noting the pride Greeks take in their renowned hospitality.

“He’s going to have a good time,” he said. “Greeks very much take pride in our hospitality.”

Following this sentiment, President Trump has referred to Greece as a “terrific” ally and characterized Mitsotakis as a “terrific guy” after their discussions.

Potential speech at the Acropolis

Guilfoyle further suggested that a major speech by Trump during his visit could be beneficial, particularly in light of the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence. “Well, of course, we would all love that, wouldn’t we? Have [Trump] give a speech at the Acropolis. I hope he will come, I’ll ask him to come. He’s so hardworking, he works nonstop,” she expressed.

There is growing speculation in Athens that Trump’s visit may coincide with the NATO summit scheduled to take place in Turkey on July 7-8, potentially paving the way for significant diplomatic discussions during his time in Greece.
