In a remarkable display of talent and skill, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old batter for Rajasthan Royals, has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket. His historic achievement unfolded during a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match, where he showcased extraordinary prowess and confidence.
Record-breaking innings
Suryavanshi reached the century mark in a breathtaking fashion, hitting a six off renowned bowler Rashid Khan, thus becoming the fastest Indian player to achieve this milestone, completing it in just 35 balls. During his innings, he belted an impressive total of seven fours and 11 sixes before being bowled out for an incredible 101 runs off 38 balls. This explosive performance was pivotal in leading the Royals to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans.
A rising star in the IPL
Having only recently turned 14 last month, Suryavanshi was signed during last year’s auction for a substantial £103,789 (1.1 crore rupees). Earlier this season, he made headlines by becoming the youngest player to participate in the IPL, making an immediate impact by hitting a six with his very first ball.
In a thrilling match in Jaipur, Suryavanshi partnered with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who finished unbeaten on 70 off 40 balls, forming a formidable partnership that contributed significantly to the Royals’ chase of a target of 210 runs. Together, they constructed a staggering 166-run partnership, showcasing their combined striking abilities and putting the Gujarat bowlers under immense pressure.
“Victory ended a run of five straight losses for Rajasthan to keep their slim hopes of making the knockout stages alive,” noted a team source.
On the opposing side, Gujarat Titans had notable performances from Shubman Gill, who scored 84 runs off 50 balls, and former England captain Jos Buttler, who also contributed with an unbeaten half-century. Despite their efforts, Gujarat dropped to third place in the IPL standings based on net run-rate.
