Germany detains Lebanese man linked to Hamas for alleged attack planning

by editor

Authorities in Germany have detained a Lebanese national on charges of being affiliated with Hamas and plotting attacks in Europe. The individual, identified as “Mohammad S”, was apprehended at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport upon his arrival from Beirut on Friday evening.

Details of the arrest and accusations

According to federal prosecutors, “Mohammad S” played a significant role in procuring 300 rounds of ammunition back in August 2025. His involvement extends to an alleged conspiracy aimed at attacking Jewish and Israeli institutions. He is expected to appear before a federal judge who will determine his pretrial detention status.

Hamas, which once held control over Gaza, has been significantly weakened due to Israeli military operations in the region. This militant group is recognized as a terrorist organization by several nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel. The group was responsible for a series of attacks in Israel in October 2023 that resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities and over 250 hostages being taken.

Connections to previous arrests

In an alarming continuation of these events, German authorities have linked “Mohammad S” to “Abed Al G”, one of three alleged Hamas operatives arrested last October. These individuals were detained while reportedly engaged in a weapons transfer in Berlin. Among the arrested, two are German nationals while another hails from Lebanon. Reports indicate that police conducted searches in several German cities, including Leipzig and Oberhausen, during the time of these arrests.

In a separate incident in November, another Lebanese national suspected of being associated with Hamas was arrested near the border with the Czech Republic, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the group’s activities within Europe.

Hamas is considered a terrorist organisation by the US, UK, Israel and many other countries.
