Despite all this, he stands by his party’s “eco-realist” policies. “I think the problem can only be solved through innovation and economic growth. This is what humanity has always done and the message I still want to send. We will not solve anything with green taxes and making people feel guilty. If we spend enormous amounts of money and hit 0.0003% of the targets, we will find ourselves with Gilet Jaunes like France,” Bart De Wever warned.
When speaking about energy, Antwerp’s strong man politician repeated his preference for “A mix of nuclear and renewable energy.” He argued, “This would offer better guarantees in terms of cost, security and durability.” Bart De Wever thinks at least two of the newer nuclear power plants should remain in operation until 2025.
“We have to accept that climate change is a reality and prepare for life on a hotter planet,” he said.
