Nowadays, two in three companies are victims of cyber-attacks. Moreover, their number has further increased, as hackers resort to ever more “smart” methods. Sirris notes that although Belgium has the necessary university know-how to fight cybercrime, its transfer to companies is still a challenge.
The body, part of Agoria, the federation for the technological industry, has been coordinating SeCloud, a cyber-security research project, since 2015. The project has enabled the demonstration of the innovation potential in the sphere within the Brussels-Capital region.
The BICI will rely upon national and European partnerships to arm companies against cyber-attacks, and help them create cyber-secure products. It will combine the know-how of the research centres of the university of Leuven, the Free Universities of Brussels VUB and ULB, Erasmus University College Brussels, Sirris and other key players in the research and innovation sphere in the Brussels-Capital region.
