Nearly 600,000 Belgians attend Christmas mass

Last year, around 595,970 people took part in Eucharist at Belgium’s parish churches on Christmas Day (day or evening ceremony) year, according to figures provided by Belgium’s eight dioceses.
De Zondag reported on the story on Sunday.

“What is particularly remarkable is that the majority, around 328,859 Belgians, chose the evening or midnight mass”, says episcopal conference spokesman Geert De Kerpel. “266,111 Belgians celebrated Eucharist on the 25th of December. 335,000 people followed it on the radio or on television. In total, that’s at least 930,000 people”.

Christmas celebrations in abbeys, monasteries and old people’s homes were not included.
