Brussels faces pigeon population problem

by editor March 19, 2019
March 19, 2019
The Brussels region has decided to take steps to fight back against its pigeon population problem, according to reports.
At last count, the region was home to 4,500 pairs of birds according to a 2004 record. This is a figure that has probably increased since then, primarily because of intensive feeding, reports BX1.

To fight back against the overpopulation, Brussels has developed a coordinated action plan between the different municipalities.

This plan includes calling on districts to ban the feeding of birds, an act which is already prohibited in the regional parks. Other actions are also recommended, such as installing dovecotes in different places to gain the opportunity to regulate births by replacing eggs with lures.
