Colruyt recalls chopped chicken products

by editor
Discount supermarket chain Colruyt asked customers on Thursday to bring back products made from chopped chicken (chicken chipolata, chicken sausage, minced chicken, chicken burger) due to the presence of salmonella.
Consumers who have purchased such products can bring them back to their point of sale. The recall decision was taken in consultation with the Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (Afsca).

The presence of salmonella was found during an internal control at supplier Belki. The products concerned were on sale in all Colruyt and Okay stores in Belgium between 8 and 10 April. In the meantime, they have been removed from the shelves.

Possible symptoms of poisoning caused by salmonella are: fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea within 12 to 48 hours after eating the contaminated food.

The risk of infection is higher in the elderly, children, pregnant women and immunocompromised persons.
