Huawei secures major 5G deals at Mobile World Congress

Telecom giant Huawei had a successful few days this week as the company won a number of awards and secured new 5G deals with global mobile operators during the annual Mobile World Congress.
Huawei won five different awards, including for Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough, for its 5G radio access network innovation.

Multiple contracts were also signed with global mobile operators, as the company continues its innovation and push towards 5G development globally through cooperation with telecom operators.

VIVA Bahrain, the leading telecommunications provider in Bahrain, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a nationwide 5G service launch with Huawei. VIVA Bahrain will upgrade their existing infrastructure, which will enable their customers to access 5G services across Bahrain by June 2019.

Another gulf country telecom operator, Saudi Telecom Company, also signed an “Aspiration Project” contract with Huawei, for 5G technology. Meanwhile, in UAE, Etisalat announced a strategic partnership with Huawei to deploy end-to-end 5G network in UAE later this year.

In Europe, Huawei and Icelandic telecom operator Nova signed an agreement on the first project on 5G testing to be executed in Iceland.

The company also has an ongoing partnership with Swiss telecom provider Sunrise, who will be making 5G services available to its customers already next month in over 150 towns and cities across Switzerland.

In Monaco, Monaco Telecom and Huawei signed a new strategic agreement on IoT (Internet of Things) to support the “5G Nation” project initiated by Monaco, Huawei also said.

In addition, the company also concluded deals with operators in major markets within Africa and Asia.
