A large-scale police and STIB operation is taking place across Brussels, checking for drugs and the validity of public transport tickets.

On Flagey square in Ixelles, dozens of police officers are stationed this afternoon checking commuters as they pass by.

“The security staff of STIB is checking people for a valid ticket, while our police agents are checking for drugs,” said Ilse Van de keere, spokesperson of police zone Brussels-Ixelles, to Bruzz. The police are using sniffer dogs.

The police have not announced the other places where the checks are taking place.
