Liege wants to instigate its plan to fight homelessness and poverty through the CPAS, to help reduce the number of people living on the streets or in poor conditions. “The Liege CPAS hands out more than 12,000 social integration allocations and equivalent social aids. 470 of these are given to homeless people and 1,500 go to students. More than 20,000 people in Liege depend on social aid”, the Liege CPAS revealed on Friday.
The social policy declaration was approved by the Social Action Council on the 7th of March. It aims to insure social aid meets everyone’s fundamental needs and help CPAS beneficiaries become independent and achieve successful social and professional integration. “To do this, we need to focus on improving how those who receive aid are accompanied: we need to provide personalised, targeted and integrated accompaniment geared towards respecting deadlines”, said Mrs Mahy.
This declaration focuses on three main points – homelessness (which is constantly on the rise and affects people from the whole of the Liege area), employment geared towards socio-professional integration and the rising number of people aged 18 to 25, who are at the beginning of their social career.
The Social Action Council has also adopted the Liege CPAS’ new visual identity: it evokes the connections that link the Liege population while referencing the importance accorded to the individual and social cohesion.
