Two hotels in Rogier square to undergo renovations

The Hilton Brussels City and the Crowne Plaza hotels, which have stood in Rogier square for over a century, will undergo renovations, Swedish hotel group Pandox announced Thursday.
In a press release, the group said both buildings will undergo renovations and that the Hilton will be rebranded as “Hotel Indigo,” BX1 explains.

Plans for the Crowne Plaza include not only a revamp of its art-deco building — designed by Belgian architects Antoine Pompe and d’Adhémar Lener — but plans also include an enlargement of its surface onto the adjacent empty lot, which was once considered for an Apple Store.

The renovations will be carried out by two Italian architecture firms after their proposals won a contest that was supported by the Brussels Bouwmeester, or chief architect.

The project, which has an estimated budget of €65 million, would include an elevated shopping area, a conference room and a rooftop bar and restaurant that open out onto the city’s Botanical Garden, according to the Bouwmeester’s website.

In its press release, Pandox group said that the project would create jobs “destined primarily at Brussels natives.”
