Farmers plan another protest in Brussels on Monday

by editor

Belgian farmers’ organizations will hold another protest on Rue de la Loi in Brussels next Monday.

The police expect that hundreds of farmers will roll into the capital in their tractors to disrupt traffic.

Rue de la Loi will be closed between Schuman and the small ring (R20) after 6 a.m. Multiple roads bordering Rue de la Loi, the main drag through the European quarter, and both Reyers tunnel and Cinquantenaire Park tunnel will be inaccessible by car for drivers heading downtown.

The police therefore recommend that commuters use public transport or other means as no cars will be allowed in the area around Rue de la Loi. In case of an overflow, the metro stations Schuman, Maalbeek and Arts-Loi might also be closed in the course of the day.

The blockades will last until approximately 4 p.m.

European farmers, angry at EU green bureaucracy and a squeeze on their incomes, staged a raucous protest in Brussels at the beginning of February, setting fires in front of the European Parliament and toppling a statue.
