POLITICO 28 Class of 2020 — By the numbers

by editor

POLITICO has revealed its ranking of the 28 most powerful people in Europe in 2020.

French President Emmanuel Macron tops the list, with the remaining 27 entries divided into three categories: doers, disrupters and dreamers.

Where previous editions highlighted people making an impact in often unexpected ways, this year’s ranking reflects a search for the people with the most power and influence on European politics and policy. The result is an even larger presence from the world of politics (20), followed by activism (4), public officials (3) and the tech sector (1).

Here’s a breakdown of the list:

Among the non-politicians are migrant rescuer Carola Rackete, far-right publisher Götz Kubitschek and climate activist Greta Thunberg, the youngest member of the ranking.

Labor rights campaigner Jean-Daniel Zamor is the only black member of the list.

The list includes 19 men and 9 women.
