Research: New settlements threaten Israel’s role in EU program

by editor January 17, 2019
January 17, 2019

Israel’s announcement on August 13 that it will give the green light to building 942 new homes for Jewish settlers in the West Bank could put the breaks on its participation in a multi-billion-euro EU research program, writes EUobserver.

The announcement comes on the eve of the resumption of peace talks in Jerusalem. EUobserver also notes it comes as Israeli and EU officials were to meet in Tel Aviv on August 14 for talks on Israel’s already-troubled participation in research and innovation program Horizon 2020.

Israeli delegates are expected to tell the EU that the restrictions it imposed on Israeli firms last month, obliging the signing of territorial clauses in funding agreements, are unacceptable.
